I would like to add a built in cabinet and book shelves to an existing alcove.

Build ikea cabinets per ikea instructions. Screw the cabinets together and mount on the base. A configuration of cubbies provides flexible storage as well as display space for trinkets books and framed photos while drawers with a technology component conceal wires cables and gaming consoles.
